In The Beginning

Our involvement with Vizslas began back in 2007. Up until that point in my life, I was terrified of dogs and made the decision that I needed to overcome this fear. I spent countless hours researching dog breeds, due to their loving demeanor, high energy, and their level of intelligence, the Vizsla was the unparalleled decision and only choice for our family. I did, what at the time seemed like a good job at doing my homework, finding a breeder who happened to have a litter on the ground and this was it! I had no idea that I was purchasing a dog from a backyard breeder, nor aware of the risks and danger that would lie ahead before us. I had never had a dog, nor had I ever wanted one.

We fell in love with our girl Emma, she was more than a great pet with a great temperament, she was a part of our family. Unfortunately, due to poor breeding, she became tragically ill. After thousands of dollars at the vet and cancer we could not beat, we finally made the hardest decision we had ever faced, and let her cross the rainbow bridge.

A year went by before we contemplated bringing home a new dog. This time, I devoted myself to endless research, finding out all I could find as to stay informed about the different types of breeders, their practices, and more importantly, the motivation behind their philosophy of breeding Vizslas. I found through my research that breeders who show dogs, conduct proper health checks and prove their dogs as ambassadors of the breed through conformation, agility, scent work and hunting tests. It is only then, Vizslas are bred to an equally qualified mate. In addition, reputable breeders will be associated with the National and Regional clubs.

All of this has led me on the path to becoming a reputable breeder, bringing me to the place I find myself standing today. We are ready to expand our passion further, discovering where our vision may lead us going forward. After dedicating a lot of our time and efforts to canine sports, it is imperative to protect and preserve the Vizsla breed for future generations. The very essence of preservation breeding not only encompasses the careful maintaining and protection of this valuable breed, but it requires fostering and cultivating their amazing abilities, resulting in becoming a lifelong member of your family. It has now become clear, in doing our part, our purpose is to strive and champion for the development of this wonderful breed, leading to the birth of De Oro Vizslas, our vision was born.
